Bjoern Dunkerbeck, holder of 35 worldtitles since 1988 gives racing events a break, by announcing he will not take part in the 2001 racing world tour. He plans to do trips to remote windsurfing locations, maybe explore some spots which no one has ever sailed, write travel stories, do some filming and promote his work worldwide. He plans to do these trips with friends from the Canaries and from the worldtour. He will continue with his sponsors Neil Pryde and F2.
He states his main reason for this decision being the current PWA racing formats, which don’t suit him too well. He mentiones the sometimes not more than 2 Minutes lasting slalom races, and the consistent reduction of wind limit for the events. He apparently does not like sailing in light winds, therefore also has not competed on this years freestyle tour.
He still plans to take part on the wavetour 2001, providing the organizers will come up with a decent eventschedule with at least 5 to 6 wave events.
We reckon Bjoern has deserved a break, good on him. It will finally give some other guys a chance of winning some worldtitles also…

Inte alls säkert eftersom ett extra grand slam är inplanerat. Brasilien eller maui är frågan.

Det blev ingen vind i Sylt som dessutom skulle varit en ren vågtävling.
