People not into windsports here in Iceland often have a misunderstanding of Icelandic weather. I would say the heat and weather is about the same as in England with the occational storm (once or twice a month during the wintertime) which there are alerts prior to in news etc. I would say more like 40-50 knots tops in gusts during those storms.
That doesnt happen often around the Reykjavik area.
Prior to kitesurfing I did windsurfing so I think I know what I’m talking about.
From May-Sept I kitesurf in a 5/3mm suit and Okt-Apr is doable in 6/4 mm suit. Right now (januar) the sea temp is around 8-10° C.
Global warming probably to blame, they’re saying the Icelandic glaciers will be gone in 100 or 200 years time if it keeps warming at the same rate, sea water raising 2-3 meters aswell. (Don’t have to worry about that quite yet),.
P.s. that picture with the thread opening is a pure winter shot, not at all like that at the moment, 8° and no snow. We’ll have to check out the glaciers next weekend.
