– Kai ”Flykatcher” Katchadourian has been busy creating music with both fellow Simmer rider Sylvain Demercastel as well as Klaus Simmer himself, but as of now it’s all about Cabo Verde and it’s best said in Kai’s own words, so bombs away:
”It’s been suspense filled and surreal, and not a dull moment since arriving.
Up North Side on Sal Island picked up this big swell more on this type of direction and wind, and we saw the swell was picking up rapidly. Started at Fontana, sailed out got some outer bombs there, sailed down the coast to Curral Joul which was mast and a half solid and 300+ meters long breaking on sheer jagged rig-eating rock. I tip-toed around until that just got out of hand, way too dangerous, and we got long rides down to another peak, the legendary, fabled, long-untold story itself………..ALI BABBA!!!! The treasure chest swung wide open for the unthinkable near 1/2 kilometer rides lasting almost a minute on the 1 1/2 mast high bombs at the peak that were careening into racetrack sections right along the jagged point. Hard to describe the mixture of fear and adrenaline. We all got picked off at least once, I was super lucky to only break a few battens after I blew it and did not kick out in time, to get absolutely dismembered by an 10 footer that swung wide.
A pounding only the X-Flex could have handled…. Straight back out there!!!” -
