Ett brev från Bob DawsonHi All I would just like to wish everybody all the best for the New Year,
and thought it might be a good time to throw in a few comments.
Firstly regarding R&D of the Arc concept, although there are quite a
few people on the group who have come up with some ideas to improve
each model myself included, things like the TET. they are just minor
improvements to an already brilliant design. And the credit should
really go to the guy that owns the design. Although with each new
model you may think it’s just the same old thing with a few little
bits added here and there I can tell you that from the G to the Venom
was the total redesign. Pete Lynn Jr has an amazing ability to think
outside the square. And over the next couple of years you will see
from the Peter Lynn camp some amazing new concepts. Although the
bridled tube kites are not my cup of tea, the one thing that they
have done is all of a sudden made bridles and other sophisticated
ideas respectable. In the past everybody was saying that keep it
simple, now the boundaries have changed, look out!!. Since the
bridled tube kites arrived I have been listening to all the hype and
using them myself, of course they do have some different features to
the standard tube and the venom, the most significant difference is
the ability to depower and the relaunch is a bonus. For me they are
definitely not what they are made out to be. That is the absolute
kite of the feature. After spending many hours using the pully
system, GK system, and just a standard set up on the bows, I am now
an even bigger fan of the Venom. Now I hear you say thats because I
have a long association with Peter Lynn and have a vested interest,
that is correct, but I also deal in tube kites, As a matter-of-fact I
probably sell more of them than I do the venom.
A couple of weeks ago we had probably the worst North East wind that
I have everflown in in my area, I was riding a 11 m sonic, one of my mates
was using a Best nemesis 12, my other mate who is a diehard North Vegas
unhooked slim chance wakeboard style rider was using his Vegas 12 .
We were all having major dramas couldn’t land anything, and basically
all three of us were getting smashed. I then went and put up the 13
venom, full TET, standard third braid fully tightened, spanline
bridle (BB Bridle) and moderate shortening of the number one braid.
two 15mm folds either side of the bridle attachments in the centre,
that is a total shortening of 30 millimetres. I could not believe the
difference between the sonic and the venom I went from being
absolutely smashed, on off power unable to set up properly for
anything, to carving up the waves, throwing whatever tricks I wanted,
boosting megga airs and landing clean. Don’t get me wrong I am not
knocking the sonic it just doesn’t do it for me. I then let Pete who
was on the best, use the venom he was totally convinced. Then put Lee
on the venom I said to him don’t alter the trim just ride it until
you get used to it, so of course he immediately tried to power up the
kite. Lee’s personality is flat to the boards, don’t listen to
anything anybody says, aggression. He started by trying to do a dry
start back loop onto the board, stuffed that. Then had major dramas
just trying to ride because he had powered the kite and was trying
to ride the same as the Vegas. I then called him in and said trim
back where it was depowered, then ride fast and fly the kite like you
hate it, he said. I already do hate it, about an hour later after I
really got pissed off he returned with the kite, and all he had to
say was., I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it, I am gowing to get
one of these. In the past I have used both tube kites and Arc’s, the
main reason being that I sell both and it’s always good to be seen
using both styles of kites as a retail. The first time I tried to use
a kite with the board was in 1989 and I find after all this time I am
still getting more and more enjoyment from the sport. I am finding
it increasingly harder to use anything other than the venoms.
Although there are other kites that do some things a little better
than the venom, the all-round performance, ease of use, durability,
and hasslefree kiting. I no longer have any desire to use tube kites.Bob Dawson
