For 2003 IFCA decides to focus more on slalom again!Slalom is once again considered as a full discipline with Continentals and Worlds from 2003 onwards. For some years slalom has been losing out in the sport due to a lot of races being cancelled because of insufficient wind. With the recent evolution in slalom boards and rigs IFCA believes that it is time to re-launch slalom.
IFCA propose to stage single discipline slalom events as well as to combine slalom with course racing (Formula Windsurfing) at racing events with both disciplines contributing 50% of the final score.
National organizers are advised either to organize Racing events with both Course Racing (FW) and Slalom scheduled or to schedule slalom only events.
The Championship Rules for the Continental and World Championships of IFCA will be modified as follows:
Slalom – competitors may compete using one registered ISAF production board and 3 sails
The maximum board width shall be 85 cm.
The maximum sail size shall be 9,8 m².
The wind range for slalom will be 9-35 knots.Course Racing – competitors may compete using one registered ISAF production board & 3 sails
The maximum board width shall be 105 cm.
The maximum sail size shall be 12,5 m².
The wind range for slalom will be 7-25 knots.Racing events (Course Race + Slalom)
Competitors may register 2 boards and 4 sails only. The Principal Race Officer will do his best to provide an equal balance between the disciplines. However, the slalom discipline will take preference at the outset.Freestyle and wave Performance
Besides the Racing program IFCA will continue to promote Freestyle and Wave championships on registered ISAF production boards.2003 Continental and World Championships
IFCA will stage one World Championship for the 4 disciplines in Hyeres, France in October.
A “Racing Worlds” including Slalom and Course Race
An “Artistic Worlds” including Freestyle and Wave Performance. Both events will be organized at the same time and at the same venue. Competitors may choose to compete either in the “Racing Worlds” or the “Artistic Worlds”.
We are in progress of recognizing existing events or organizing new events as Continental Championships in the Slalom, Freestyle and Wave disciplines. The 2003 calendar will be published very soon.
Good Winds in 2003
