Die Formula Windsurfing sorgt für Spannung – noch nie wurde ein Saisonauftakt in einer Regattaklasse so interessiert beobachtet. Alle Racer wollen wissen, welcher der neuen breiten Formula-Renner kann den Starboards Paroli bieten? Beim Annual Calema Midwinters Windsurfing Festival in den USA traten einige Worldcupper gegeneinander an. Dabei hatte Micah Buzianis, Vize-Weltmeister im Racing der PWA, auf dem Drops FL13 die Nase vorne. Rang zwei ging an Jimmy Diaz, der mit dem Bic FV1.2 schon bei der Formula-WM in Thailand in die Top Ten gesurft war. Matt Pritchard knüppelte den nagelneuen AHD Formula 95 beim allerersten Regattaeinsatz auf Platz drei. Beachtlich ist auch das Ergebnis von Teamkollege Nevin Sayre. Der Ex-Worldcupper und Boss von Fiberspar sprang als Hobbyracer mit dem AHD auf den vierten Rang. Punktgleich mit einem weiteren Ex-Profi, dem Seatrend-Designer Alex Aguera, der auf seinem allerneuesten Formula-Shape eine gute Figur abgab. Der Seatrend Formula 100 (266/100 cm, 180 Liter, 9,1 kg, 2990 Mark inkl. 66er Finne und Boardbag) soll übrigens Anfang Mai in Deutschland beim Importeur Baltica Marine vorhanden sein. Aguera hatte ja vor drei Jahren, damals noch in Diensten von Drops, mit dem FL10 den Trend der superbreiten Kursrennboards ausgelöst. Als bester Starboard-Racer zeigte sich Alf Imperator auf Rang sechs, noch hinter J. Douglas auf einem AHD.
Jetzt fiebert ganz Mitteleuropa der ersten FW-Regatta am Gardasee entgegen. Am 24./25.3. wird beim YES Spring Cup in Torbole das erste Kräftemessen stattfinden, dazu werden auch einige Profis erwartet. So hat sich schon Patrice Belbeoc’h mit dem neuen Exocet Formula XL angekündigt. Auch die ersten Lorch-Boards, von Insidern als Geheimfavoriten und stärkste Gegner für die Starboards bezeichnet, sollen am Start sein. Selbst Shaper Günther Lorch will antreten, während Teamrider Andy Laufer nochmals ins Trainingslager auf Maui flog.
