Three layers of thin plywood. Glue together with D3 or (better) D4 grade wood glue. Weight the whole thing down with something under the nose to bend it up. When it sets you have a curve for life. Don’t bend it too much – I don’t think there is much spring-back once it is dry.

Lim behöva du nog inte. Vid reparationer används dubbel-häft tejp (double sided tape) – men det är bara att få ihop saker innan man sy.

Men om du måste ha något kitefix liknande då kan du köpa liquisole. Samma typ av lim.

That’s a lot of money. The dealers might not like me for saying this but I think it makes way more sense to buy second hand. As a beginner you won’t tell the difference between the latest model and a 2006/7 bow/sle. Even is you don’t crash the hell out of your shiney new kite, the drop in value after a year is still massive.

Ah – that’s what you are on about. The Venom 16 is a C kite (foil) with a lot of area in the wing tips so the projected area is pretty small. Has similar power to a 12m sle maybe. Judging by older models I’m sure you can hold it in a lot of wind with a small board and some serious edging. For beginners the range is not so good because you need skill to get both bottom and top end.

ps. Highly underrated kites, although not what I’m using these days. But even if my fat a*se could hold down a venom 16 in 14m/s, which I’m pretty sceptical about, there is no way in hell I’d try and launch one in anything like that much wind. On the positive side you can solo-land them in silly amounts of wind…

Advice: get a 12-13m bow/sle. The ones mentioned look pretty sweet (Best / Ozone). Just stick to the lighter end of the wind range. Once you improve this will be the size you would use most anyway. Wait a while before getting a 9. They are much faster and so not as beginner friendly.

Advert: If you want something cheaper (but probably not as good)

I used to melt candle wax in an old tin and put the whole line in it. Mostly to stop it wearing out at the bar hole. But I seem to remember it helped with the clam cleat too. The main thing is to keep sand away from the cleat. Once the teeth get worn it is always going to be a problem. / Dave

Even if they are strong enough, lines have to be low stretch. Otherwise as soon as the wind/power increases the front lines stretch and the kite powers up even more. A kind of anti-depower. The only real alternative is spectra/dyneema (brand names for basically the same thing). Ther are other low stretch materials (vectran, kevlar) but they are either too expensive or have other problems.

Not all dyneema/spectra lines are the same. It is all strong, but the cheaper types (like climax) have shorter fibers which go fuzzy very quick. And the weave is much looser so they tend to tangle more.

The suprising thing is that you don’t need sleeves on the line ends. You can do it the flysurfer way:
