Yup. Locked. Official handicap beach. Ramps for wheelchairs etc. Once in a while the gate is open, but there is a good chance it will be locked by the time you want to leave.
I checked out the tiny bay (the red ringed area in the pic above) about a week ago. Plenty of launch room from the grassy area but lots of stones in the water. Not sure how muddy it is either. Would only work in a W. wind. Worth a try one evening.

Where do ya start in Fiskebäck? By the little canal in a NW wind? Looks like madness. Sillvik sounds like a good tip. Best in a NW?
Interested to hear about new spots around gbg.

I don’t know that bar, but if it is a clamcleat and the rope is slipping through then the problem is that the teeth are worn (sand). If you rub a bit of surf wax into the line (maybe warm it up a bit first) then it should grip again.

You live in Varberg? I’d agree that askimsviken is a wast of time if you live there. I agree that it is a disaster when it is not blowing close to SW. The windsurfers don’t bother unless it is SW either. But the fact is that there are plenty of good days for those of us who don’t want to drive south. There are a few times a year when there are problems with swimmers, but we are talking about one month a year when it is hardly ever windy anyway.
I think it is worth trying to save the bay.

Aquaseal is da biz. A bit runnier than liquisole so easier to use. Keep it in the freezer when you are not using it and it will last forever. Warm the tube in a mug of hot water before use.

1500 sounds too much – they are easy to fix – no complicated seams. Ask around.
For the broken spar you can use 10-12mm aluminium tent pole (the venom 2 spars are aluminium) or even a lightweight ski pole. If it is tapered (thinner at one end than the other) use the thick stiffer end at the top.

Looks like S, maybe SSE wind. No joy at Askim.

Just remember Askim cannot take any wind direction other than SW. This is straight onshore in the middle of the beach, so there is not much room for beginners.

I have taken gear with Ryanair a couple of times without paying. Here are my tips if you want to try and avoid payment.
There are two issues with Ryanair. Total weight of luggage and whether you have items that they consider to be ”large”.
On both of these items they will try and make money, so you have to play careful. The weight limit is 15kg + 10kg for hand baggage.
This is not much! Make sure you use your 10kg handbaggage allowance. From what I have observed they are not super fussy about the size of the carry-on bag. If you really need to maximise your load then carry your jacket/coat and put cloths in the arms, pockets etc.Don’t bundle your board with your kites as this makes the package too big and interesting. I removed straps and fins from the board and wrapped it in bubble pack. A plain board is light and looks pretty small. Wrapped simply it does not look like anything in particular so I had no problem checking it in without special fees.
Of course, if you want to take loads of kites/boards then just turn up reasonably early and pay the $$ for a nice big package of gear.
Good luck

The usual spinnaker tape you can buy in boat shops is utter shite. If you must use it then is will need to be sewn. The best stuff I have used is sometime called insignia cloth. It is what the sailmakers use. Go to the North sail loft in Fiskebaek and buy some of there (Syverson almost certainly has it too) Great stuff. You can run a medium-hot iron over it once you have put it on. This get the glue going and it will hold without need for sewing (for low-stress areas). At your own risk of course – but this is what I do.

Hej,
You should be able to get some informed answers about PL kit if you ask here :
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/arcusers/The phantom 9 is a really small and fast kite from what I have read. For normal water use you will probably get most out of the 18 + 12 combo. This is probably equivalent to a 15 + 10 LEI, since phantoms are not ”low-end” kites. Venoms in the same sizes are more powerful though. There are lots of people selling phantoms to buy venoms, so second hand is possible…

Hej Anonym,
The waterfoil was a bridled foil from around 1999/2000. It was cheap compared to anything else at that time. I nearly bought one myself. I’m glad I didn’t! The waterfoil has almost no relation at all to modern Peter Lynn kites, which are developments of the ARC kite.
I can recommend you try one of the more modern PL kites. As well as great performance, they are amazingly stable, which means you can try stupid stuff without having to worry about them falling out of the sky. They are easy to start and land solo. Landing is a no brainer, even overpowered. Just release the kite to the leash and it goes flat like a flag and falls slowly to the ground. Negaive points: you won’t have the kind of kite that most people have, so you may experience a bit of kite-racism, but probably more on this forum than in real life.
You will also find that they last a long time. The loads on more recent models (Guerilla and onwards) are very evenly spread, so I expect they will have a much longer lifetime than tubes. I’m using guerilla’s. You are welcome to try out mine if you are in the Goteborg area.
Cheers,
Dave
