You can’t fault their good taste in kites.

You probably sent the serial number of the flysurfer when you registered for the 6month free repair service. Could be handy to track that down.

I’d advise you to put the word out on kiteforum.com too.

OK längra ut i viken förbi öan. Byigt nära stranden. Dvs inget för noobs.

Stråvalla bli ett närliggande alternative, men stranden är inte så stor så att det inte heller så bra för nybörjare. Andre lämpliga strander i området (vindriktningsmessigt) är ennu mindre.

Excuse long post in English.

I used the following technique at a shallow water at a spot in the UK where the land is covered with kite-killing sharp stones. It involves a lot of pissing around but it is reliable and safe.

Equipment: 1. heavy-duty bag to fill with rocks. Attached to bag: rope with carabiner and small float. 2. A 50-70cm ”fake” kitebar: a bit of broomstick with a couple of bits on the end; this is for winding on the lines.

Basic idea: launch from the rock-filled bag without needing to worry about line tangle.

On land: unwind lines, attach to pumped kite. Now wind the lines on to the stick, starting at the kite end and winding towards the bar (this is the unusual bit!). Secure lines with elastic/velcro to avoid tangles. Don’t drop the bar through the bridle.

Out into water. Attach chicken loop to bag. Without letting go of the kite (I just clip it to my leash at the pump leash point) unwind the lines from the stick, walking away from the bag. When the lines are out stand the kite on its side for a regular ghost launch. Walk back to bag, grab bar, clip on fake bar and ride off.

I’ve tried this in 9m weather without problems. The kite has ended up downwind one or twice but this is no big deal, it still works.

What are you after? If you want a kite for him to play with on land then even a 2m foil is probably too big for a typical 6 year old. Something like a two-line Ozone IMP in around 1.5m would be much better (in my experience). Remember, open-cell foils are crazy powerful for their size. That 2.5 ozone lei would be much less power and if it flies OK in light winds could be very nice.

When my son tried on the water for the first time last year he was around 30kg, but still did not like leis at all (he tried a flexifoil atom 7m) and really wanted something that flew like a foil (didn’t feel heavy in the lulls). If money were no object or I was running a kite school I’d get the new flysurfer viron

The repair was dead easy once I found something to stuff in the fin hole to stop the resin getting in. Just thought I’d pass on a tip about fins. Bought a set of plastic fantastic fins. Took a week to arrive from the UK.

I bought the factory seconds and they are perfectly OK. SEK160 for a set of three including postage. Not for high performance of course but a good idea if you don’t have any spares.
