Yeah its crazy but noo testing anymore. Basicly now everything is focussed on the the SL-S Rev2 (small changes to make significant improvement) and GPS_5 (widebase design). The first weedproto wasn’t good enough for Sonntag label, and limited time and high quality standard in other words this fin will probaly not be soon for sale..

I have seen the first Sonntag Fins proto SL-W, yes a weed fin. We intend to make it really competitive!! The design is based on my favorite==> Sonntag SL-S

I will let you know the first testresults.

    Cheers,

    Erik

All my reviews are based on facts, sometimes this is painfull when I find something that doesn’t work that good. But in articles like speed special W58

But I learned about 95% off all gear that didn’t really work was because I didn’t 100% understand the tuning of that windsurfpart…

A review after one short session is for me unbelievable, I prefer many setups tested before publishing a review. Those windsurfmagazine tests are done is a short period with multiple sails or boards. I recon the testers surf at most 30min per sail/board, just because there is not enough time/money.

In 30min I always say the marketing and everything you heard before has a to big effect on the results. It simply takes some time to find out if the board really behaves like the producer promises.

I don’t believe surfmagazines intend to prefer boards/sails of bigger brands (that will pay more ads money). It is simply because testing of windsurfinggear isn’t serious enough yet… I hope to make a change by getting more experience and knowledge, and use this knowledge to write real tests on speedsurfingblog.com for the worldwide web.

Intresting, G11 will be even better for rocks. It would be great to add some softness in the weedfins, but this is technical very difficult…

It is not a problem to make the fintip out of glass to make it last longer in rocks… There are little forces on fintip, soo glass would be the best material. Only the base must be out of carbon to give the weedfin a good character.

Carbon weedfins, I thought some a lot now about it. I believe carbon weedfins are the way to go. I am just interested if the hurricane are totally different than anything else, or are the hurricane simply higher quality foils.

45 degrees is the best??? That’s a lot of rake.

I have another question. Is there a performance difference between different slalomboards with weedfins???

Hi kinetic, that fin looks good, nice job from wolfgang, however the outline seems to me impossible to give the fin a wide range with stable behaviour like straight fins.

I have some idea’s together with Joerg Sonntag, but first I would like to know what is being used so far for weed. I would like to start with an article on speedsurfingblog about the need for good weedfins.

I don’t know on when we are able to do some research on our own for weedfins. I haven’t sailed a weedfin myself. Did surf some 30 degree raked fins..

To get more stability therefor a smaller design could work out well. However a fin with low efficiency will spin-out/unstable when going fast and sailing into a windlull… This could be the case with current weedfins, however if those fins are also unstable in windgusts than you should look for a totally different design……

What about underpowered sailing with a weedfin. Let’s say 20kn of wind, is it possible with the current design to go fast (efficient)? Boardspeed 35kn or even more???

With the best straight fins I have seen speeds up to 38-40kn in 20kn of wind on totally flat water in the right windangle….
