go about 1ft. taller than yourself, and keep width around 20″ minimum if you want to eventually learn to surf a shortboard, if you want to longboard, get a longoboard.

hey bro, you could easily ride a 6’6″ to learn on as long as it’s around 20″ wide and 2 3/8″ thick (better thicker). I think 1′ longer than you are tall is a good rule of thumb if your final goal isn’t to longboard but to surf a shortboard.

i recommend a board 1 foot taller than you are and around 20″ wide with thickness at least 2.5″, getting too big a board allows you to catch more waves but you may form bad habits because it allows you to catch waves you shouldn´t have, plus, a smaller board is more manoeverable when it comes to paddling as well.

I remember a day in february with sub-zero temp in the water, where two guys in the lineup were nice and warm, some of the oterhs guys with another brand on their wetsuit, were jumping up and down to regain warmth, do you remember this? 😉

Yeah, it was because of a hole in the booties, nothing to do with what suit.

Håller med dig där Daniel, var också ute den dagen och tyckte det var obehagligt med dragen och linerna över huvud på mig, det kom lite för ’tight’ på och jag kunde inte slappna av. Oschysst att tvinga på någon annan på det sättet.

I don’t think that either longboards nor retro fish are very good for swedish conditions. Ok, they catch waves better but the type of waves that those boards are suited for are lined up glassy pointlike waves. The kind of waves I’ve never surfed in Sweden (unless it was blowing under 10 m/s).

Longboards are another discipline in surfing entirely, I consider it a complement to shortboarding…best tool for the job, eh?
