Yann wrote:Your welcome 🙂 but why not have a little more scary avatar than your dog? I expected something like this: http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/liveaction/sharkboylavagirl/downloads/wallpapers/sblg_sharkboy_800x600.jpg
…or this: http://www.sharkboy.net/images/lash3.jpg
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
I could probably do the American thing and file suit against Disney for that one!!!! I’ve had my name registered on message boards before that was in development!
I’m saving it, thanks Yann! -
steepness is also bottom related (to some extent wind, but more so bottom)
pipeline is shallow but comes from deep water so it is steep
åsa hamn comes from deep water and breaks in deep water on a gradual bank (which is why you can catch sets in front of the pier at the same time you could be missing sets when you sit inside)
Other forms of power come into play with a bigger ocean, like the further waves travel, the more time they get to form together making them bigger. If they travel over deep water, they move to shore faster.
Bouyancy is also a factor in the waters here because there is less salt = less float. This is a pretty minimal difference but the difference is there

yann you rule thanks!
if we could give stars i’d give you one but instead you will get an ikon -
Yann, Daniel, you guys are both wrong about the fart sidled on a wave. It has nothing to do with how steep it is (standing waves can barrel but don’t break down the line, dvs sidleds).
The speed a wave breaks down the line has to do with the bottom contours. a fast (but unmakeable wave9 will have a bottom like this _____
a slow like Åsa will be like this / . a standing wave, like this |
The closer the bottom is to ____ the faster it is, the closer to | the slower (down the line remember)A frames are called A frames because the bottom looks like an A.
Also, conversely, waves can be fast down the line without breaking hard either. However, it is easier to get drive down the line on a steeper wave.

Oh yeah, big waves do move faster to shore because they move over deeper water, remember, the shallower it is the more the wave brakes (pun intended), meaning slows down until it is shallow enough to break.
That’s why people tow in at Jaws and places like that, the big waves are coming from such deep water that they are moving too quickly to shore to be caught with paddle power. (has nothing to do with guts)

Damn, all the forums are getting renovated!
Anyways, yann if you get a avatar working maybe I can borrow one of your photos for mine, like the one of my dog?

You broke the international rule of giving yourself more than one stars. Remember, 5 stars = nice and helpful all the time. 9 stars? what are you, a farkin’ saint? (not when you post photos of secret spots…LOL!)
hahahaha -
no worries, 400+ have already viewed this thread!
I think a 5 star rating for the thread is in order

wish I could come, I might be in Newport, CA for a bit this summer but that is still up in the air.
