I didnt need to. In fact its probably safer to have it low… Theres less power in the kite, and you hurt less when you are not lofted into the air and dumped on your head.

yeah, and if you are new to the sport, its often best to keep your kite low over the water so that people can get their kite over yours and go upwind of you. The reason people would want to go upwind of you is simple.. so that you are not dragged downwind into them by accident. 🙂
