Jag tvivlar starkt på att det verkligen är ett 5,5 du behöver – en sådan storlek använder man i (Sverige) max 1 gång vartannat år ung om man väger runt 75-80 kg

Sen 2006 har jag brutit två x9-master, varav den ena gick av när jag träffade revet i Klagshamn i 38 knop. Den andra jag bröt hade varit med i många år och gick av när jag seglade rakt fram i typ 8m/s. Masterna som NP kom med 2012 var väl kanske ingen höjdare, men till 2013 så har NP mer eller mindre lovat att det ska bli ordning även på den biten.

Simmer är inga cobrabrädor – det har varit lite olika turer så jag vet faktiskt inte var de byggs (tror dock Polen). Du kan nog räkna med att de kommer att finnas på surfers…

You’ve always been a speed record chaser, why are you not in Namibia for the luderitz speed challenge with the other big names?
Truth be told I was always in the game for the outright world record and I lived that dream for 10-years and I am really happy about the ride that I had with some very cool people chasing and then breaking 3 world records in Saintes Maries. Before this Luderitz attempt I felt that beating the then WR of Rob Douglas of 55+ knots on a windsurfer would be extremely difficult. Not impossible but really tough, now the WR is 65+ by Sailrocket, so that is for sure too much and out of the league. So it just didn’t make sense to spend the money and time to prepare properly for the attempt. I am really busy being the general manager of Avanti and we are growing quickly with new sail lines so this has been a great focus lately. We have some exciting products coming onto the market.
Do you miss being there on the channel and battling for the 100 km/h?
The channel at the 2nd lagoon looks fun absolutely, a dream run by all accounts. I have been to Luderitz in 2007 to check it out but it wasn’t good for windsurfers then but this canal solution by Catman is clean, so yeah I would take a few runs on it if I had all the right tunings for equipment, I think I could still be extremely fast on that course for sure.
What do you think about the performances of Antoine and the guys this Year?
Top class for windsurfing performances, but still far off the leading times in the world rankings so I keep it realistic as I remember dreaming over 0.3/0.5 knot when going for the WR, now the gaps are talked about in full knots. I would say that the guys looked like they had fun, lots of smiles, that means the run is glisse and quick!
Are you going to play the speed game next year?
Perhaps, but my first priority is the PWA slalom, this is where my heart lies at the moment, however I might think about defending my speed world title if a good competition with decent prize money was to happen and about Luderitz I don’t know if I have the motivation to dedicate one month of my time to that game at the moment, that decision would have to depend on how things go with the rest of the things in life….

Jurjen kör inte på standardutrustning, han har en specialbyggd bräda av Starboard och hans segel är också custom av Severne
